About

A bearing set by veterans, for veterans

True Bearing is a free career-transition platform built for U.S. military veterans moving into civilian and federal careers. We start from a single Military Career Profile — your branch, rank, MOS/AFSC/rating, years of service, clearance, leadership, technical skills, certifications, schools, and quantified accomplishments — and use it to power everything else the app does.

From that one record, True Bearing translates your military experience into civilian language, generates three resume types (general civilian, targeted field, and federal/contract), and matches you to live job openings ranked by fit. You stay in control: every translation can be reviewed and edited, every resume is yours to export as a polished PDF, and every job match can be saved, dismissed, or tailored into a role-specific resume.

The platform is for transitioning service members, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses who deserve tools that understand military service on its own terms — not a civilian form that asks you to fit your career into boxes that were never built for it. It is free, and it always will be.

True Bearing is built by a small team that includes veterans and military family members, on the Base44 platform. We are independent and mission-driven: we do not sell your data, we do not forward your records to recruiters or employers without a deliberate action from you, and your uploaded documents are stored privately with no public link. If you have questions about how the app works or how your information is handled, you can reach us from the Contact page or from the in-app Settings page.

Purpose-built

One military profile powers resumes, job matches, and applications — no re-keying your service into civilian forms.

Built by veterans

A small, independent team that includes veterans and military family members.

Private by default

Your documents stay private, your data is never sold, and sharing is always your choice.

Michael “Mac” McDaniel

Michael “Mac” McDaniel served 12 years in the U.S. Army as a communicator, in both conventional and special operations units, separating as a Staff Sergeant. After the Army, he worked in law enforcement, then moved into the defense industry with Sherpa 6. He built True Bearing because translating a military career into civilian terms shouldn’t take months of guesswork, and it shouldn’t cost veterans anything.
